ADDIS ABABA (Beegsonews) – Ethiopia said on Saturday it had arrested an unspecified number of al Shabaab militants and ISIS who were planning attacks on various targets in the country, including hotels.
The National Intelligence Service said in a statement broadcast on state radio station Fana that some of those arrested were carrying out intelligence work, including filming potential targets.
“The group was … preparing to attack hotels, religious ceremonies, gatherings and public places in Addis Ababa,” SAI officials said.
Ethiopian intelligence coordinated with neighboring Djibouti to arrest the suspects, including their leader Mohamed Abdullah, the officials said.
The militants have launched several attacks on military and civilian targets in Somalia and have carried out attacks abroad, including Kenya.
